Reaching Out the Gentle Way

Horse Whispering Knows No Border, No Boundaries…

Unlike people, horses speak the same language no matter where they live in the world. No matter what breed they are, no matter the culture they live within, no matter the native tongue of their land … their method of communication remains unaltered.
World-renowned horsewoman, animal communicator, and Usui Holy Fire Reiki Master, Anna Twinney speaks English and German. More often than not, Anna can be found speaking “horse” and teaching others to do the same. Recently, she traveled to Morocco.
“It doesn’t matter where I travel to, the issues people experience with their horses are very similar,” Twinney explains. Morocco was no exception.
Throughout my travels around the globe, I find people either looking for or clinging to a system.  They want a method that works with 100% of horses, 100% of the time.  And when the method doesn’t work, when they have run out of “steps” and come to the end without the result they seek, the blame usually falls squarely on the horse.
“I met some incredible, kind, generous and enthusiastic people. It didn’t matter if they were rich or poor, experienced or new to the world of horses.  As with everywhere I travel, I was asked the same question, “How do I get my horse to…?”, or, “How do I get my horse to stop…?”.  I told them the same thing I tell everyone. In order to fix the problem, you have to know why it is happening (or not happening), and that cannot be solved with a system or a quick fix.  That can only be solved by communication.”
The challenge with a system is that, by its very nature, it is self-limiting and founded in linear, logical, left-brain thinking.  Every system has steps to follow, expected outcomes, and rigid guidelines. In horsemanship, if a system fails, the only options are to try it again, find another system, or blame the horse, which, in extreme cases, can result in abuse of the horse.
Anna’s methodologies, however, are founded in a fluency of the communication system of the horse.
Twinney sums it up this way, “If you are fluent in the language of Equus a whole world of partnership and training open up for you.  You begin to discover who your horse is and why he does what he does.  If your training methods aren’t working, you can understand why and adapt.  Be creative.  When you work in this way, you are partners with your horse, solving problems, exploring all that is possible, and creating a program unique to each horse.  For me that is far better, and a lot more fun, than simply training a horse and imposing a training method on every horse equally.”
While in Morocco, Anna demonstrated her work to many people from all walks of life and interests in horses.  It was this creative, communicative and cooperative approach that fascinated them the most.  To see Anna quietly speaking and working with the horses, treating each horse as an individual, and solving some of their most difficult issues right in front of their eyes was earthshattering.  Many of them, for the first time, saw a side of the horses they had never seen and learned that harder wasn’t the solution, understanding was.

Dear Herd,
It’s been a glorious past few weeks as we have immersed ourselves into the unique courses we offer through ROTH: Advanced horsemanship gentling wild foals, starting both Mustangs and Andalusians under saddle the gentle way and supporting the horses that need help to understand our world!  With just a few days threaded in between we have been hard at work back at the ranch taking care of the fields, fences, and runs.  Joining us were two International student trainers from Germany and South Africa – how we love to share a well-rounded experience with all those who embrace the chance to get stuck in!

ASK ANNA:

Dear Anna,

How do you handle those who are skeptical about ROTH methodologies and Animal Communication?
It’s funny you should ask! Later this month, I’m hosting a mini webinar series on this very topic. I’d encourage you to join us for the Webinars to get a comprehensive answer to your question.
For now, I’ll answer briefly. I am happy to have a skeptic in the audience provided he or she has an open mind. I encourage healthy skepticism. In fact, I’d describe myself as a somewhat skeptical person. Once the less than convinced sees the results of ROTH methodologies and Animal Communication, they have the evidence they need to develop a belief. Once a skeptic is convinced, they become passionate advocates! Passionate advocates work to better the lives of the animals they encounter and they share their the knowledge. How can I be upset about that? a498a4b577eadde16d3971be_1200x798[1]This is only a small portion of our newsletter in its new format – Diary of a Horse Whisperer.  For the full newsletter and to sign up to receive our monthly updates please visit the link below:

Horse Whispering 101 with Certified ROTH Instructor, Braxton Dolce and Reach Out to Horses

Horse Whispering 101

This year Reach Out to Horses launched Horse Whispering 101, which I had the pleasure of instructing.  It is designed for people who have just begun to awaken their inner horse whisperer, or people coming back to horses after a break.   The students came from all over the United States, Canada, and from all walks of life.  Each class I teach seems to evolve with a theme; the commonality in this group was a desire to become comfortable working with horses in a safe and confident manner, which I felt was accomplished.

The most rewarding piece of being a Reach Out to Horses Certified Instructor is helping students work through their fears, insecurities and preconceived notions about working with and around horses.  I really enjoy watching as the “pennies drop” and the “light bulbs turn on.”  This wonderful group of ladies worked through understanding working with horses in the mindset of a horse whisperer.  They learned how to stay in the “present and not so distant future,” and how to juggle between being in your head and being in your heart or feeling space.  As they began to learn the equipment they found confidence in entering a paddock with multiple horses and were able to catch them using visualization, appropriate body language, controlled energy, and correct use of the tools in their hands.  The exercises that followed built on the foundation that was set in the first couple of days.

I wanted you to know that I worked with a Fjord mare this week who had been yanking everyone around so that she could grass-dive…so I combined my TTouch leading techniques with some ROTH intentionality asking her to “stay with me” and keeping watch (out of the side of my eye) to be sure she kept her head up…it allowed me to stay one step ahead of her and I only needed some upward pulsing on the halter occasionally for reinforcement so that she never got completely into eating…I felt I maintained my leadership and stayed focused…I was very pleased…

— Elizabeth V., NY

Thank you for the excellent hands-on work with the horses this past week.  You are a fabulous instructor, especially when demonstrating how to work with the horses and working with students right as they are working with the horses.  You have a real talent connecting with the human and knowing precisely what is needed at just that immediate time-nothing less, nothing more- to get to the next step!  Awesome instruction!  Most likable person because you connect with your students!  Thanks!

— Connie C., CO

Just wanted to say hello and thanks.  As I watch and re-watch the video clip of me and the Vanner- Embar- I want to give working with the horses more time.  I’ve lots to learn from them.  (really, really missing them too)  Thought you would like to know… I hope I will be in a class of yours again.  Thanks again,

Testimonials from ROTH’S 2016 Bitterroot Ranch Retreat

Joanne Pulis of British Columbia
The combination of Anna’s wonderful teaching, receiving Reiki attunements here at the beautiful Bitterroot Ranch, practicing on each other and sharing with the horses was a magical, once-in-a-lifetime experience. I am grateful and feel blessed for all the beautiful people, animals and all I have learned and experienced.  My heart is full!
Naomi McKinstry of Loxahatchee, FL
Amazing.  Once-in-a-lifetime experience!  Everything from the horsemanship, Reiki, and Reiki on horses was personally moving and inspiring.  Supportive learning environment and for all aspects.  So grateful to have had this experience with Anna at Bitterroot Ranch, couldn’t have been more perfect.
Mary Ehrgood of Oconomowoc, WI
The two days of horse communication and connection increased my awareness of my language of the horse and then two days of Reiki levels 1 and 2 deepened my awareness of my values and commitments and gifts.  The last day of Reiki with horses integrated my previous days and I was open to the personalities and beauty of each individual horse in ways I had never been before.  The combination of horse communication through understanding the language of the horse and the deep integrity and power of the beautiful Reiki communication gave me immense learning. And Bitterroot Ranch, the people, horses and land are the best I could have imagined.
Carolyn Schieren of Louisville, CO
Taking a workshop with Anna Twinney is a journey of mind, body and soul, facilitating transformational change in visceral understanding of the essence and language of Equus, and how they as sentient beings reveal how human shows up in the world now, while opening doors on how to be moving forward.
Cynthia Starks of Dubois, WY
Anna has been a wonderful teacher of natural horsemanship as well as Reiki.  Thank you, Anna, for sharing your knowledge and heartfelt gift of love and empathy; compassion and energy.
Dan Starks of Dubois, WY
I will always remember this week and often use what I learned.  Thank you!
Nancy Neafus of Morrison, CO
As an intuitive energy healer I have often been reluctant to learn Reiki.  I will be incorporating Reiki into my healing now as I have found it to be a beautiful, powerful, love-based modality.  Anna’s ability to read people and horses combined with her teaching methods, passion and compassion, opened new opportunities for me for personal growth and development.  It has been a magical week!
Janet Lunnon, Lakewood, CO
Anna Twinney and the Bitterroot Ranch…an unforgettable experience!  Anna is The Horse Whisperer Extraordinaire and her ability to demonstrate and teach the language of the horse is beyond amazing.  Her compassion for horses and for her students is beyond compare.  I arrived at Bitterroot Ranch depleted and empty, and I left with a full heart and a new lease on life, and a new appreciation for energy healing…for BOTH the horse and the human soul!  Thank you, Anna!
Andrea Pomarico of Castle Rock, CO
Divine, transformative and poetic beyond words!  The expansive heart connection I experienced between horse, human, land and Source was undeniably magical during our lovely week stay at Bitterroot Ranch.  The amplified clarity and intensity in which I am now able to intuit and channel energy is so much more prominent after receiving my Reiki Master attunement, which is the perfect compliment to the many other vibrational healing modalities I already utilize.  I am in awe of Anna’s unique gift of seamlessly blending strangers with group experiences that speak to all levels of ones mental, physical, and emotional awareness while allowing for very personalized, individual growth.
