The Journey Less Traveled

In Anna’s Words:

If you had asked me to describe the partnership between our horses and humans there are so many words I could bring forth: love, trust, compassion, connection, mutual respect and understanding…communication, collaboration, fun, enjoyment, relationship, leadership.

Today I FELT something that went beyond this description, something difficult to put into words for “B” (we shall call him); a Belgian who described how he lays his life on the line when he teams up to pull the wagon – just like she does driving him.  He has to trust his person in the wilderness they live in and call home. He has to rely on his person to be there for him. He has to be able to listen and work truly as a team for survival and success. Nothing quite compares to the lifestyle they live…naturally.

They are to grow old together. His excellent training stands him in good stead as an upright citizen, but they still need to be patient with one another as they explore their relationship and build it on true trust. As he learns her language, her needs, and expectations, she learns about him. It’s a partnership built on honesty.

The care that was overlooked previously and the suppleness needed to stay athletic are only a small part of the overall picture. Not everyone can take the reins to drive a team – it’s not about technicalities or queues, it’s about the experiences they share to get them to the very point of trusting one another. This cannot be transferred to another, instead they share this journey. It’s the journey less travelled as they experience the natural world becoming true friends and partners.

Moving Straight Ahead

He had begun to “run out” during training and to not do his job, thus causing danger to his young rider who was learning steer wrestling. He cut to the chase during our session together – no small talk, as he valued his time and realized his voice needed to come across clearly. His honesty showed just how he ran left, leaving his rider hanging short of the steer.

He shared about the saddle fit (the one that fitted) and the pressure on his withers with his rider leaning to the right. He had the solution too.  Through detailed description, he showed levels and location of pain throughout his body taken care of by the chiropractor – while asking for ongoing support.

“Ridden hard and put away wet” in his time – expectations for him had been high. This rider was different; he was sensitive. And yet there was fear surrounding the consequences of him running out from others with harsh spurs whose expectations stole his confidence and returned him to innocence. His mental and emotional anxiety had grown and it seemed he had internalized his feelings, ultimately manifesting physical side effects. He gave all the reasons as to why he behaved this way, so there would be no more speculation, but instead, clarity. He gave answers to questions and paved the way forward. They offered alternative therapies and guidance…this was to be a new way of training and if up for the task, they would become one as they explored their partnership.

Just a week later Anna received the following from a grateful Mother of a young man who can now begin to really explore his talent for a sport he loves with his willing partner, Splash.

Anna – I thought you might like to hear this – Will practiced with Splash today (with steers) and he used Peace and Calming Oil on the heart space/forehead/and front leg acupressure points to calm the soul, Valor on either side of the spine from the solar plexus back to the Root Chakra, did visualization with him and thought communication, and with the use of his new gel pad on the withers,…had PERFECT RUNS!!!!!!! He has not done that in a year!!! He ran perfectly straight and did not veer left even a step! Will praised him and had another chiropractic adjustment done afterward. COULD NOT BE MORE EXCITED!!!! Thank you sooo much!

Going the Distance

With an upcoming move from Dubai to South Africa, she reached out to hear from her horse wondering if he would be alright to travel the distance since his physical challenges had moved front and center.

He had experienced laminitis. As a stallion, his demeanor was gentle and kind; a compact, majestic individual. He articulated his consultation thoroughly and shared how his feet would make a full recovery. With veterinary care and a thorough rehab of cold hosing and barefoot trimming (despite her concerns as a vet tech), he was on the track to full recovery.

Life in Dubai was different from what he was used to in Europe and as an experienced jumper he was comfortable teaching her and keeping her safe as she learned the discipline. Living in a rural setting surrounded by desert was interesting and he noticed details such as the limos with flags on them.

They had fallen for each other with a partnership growing in depth. Their jumping experiences had taken a rain check since his condition and her injury, but they found ways to be together. She would have it no other way than to take him with her to South Africa. He was familiar with the quarantine process, the duration, and described the two flight paths – one direct and one through Europe – which he embraced. He knew he would be taken care of.

At the other end of the trip, the largest change he envisioned was climate change. The facilities would match one another in care, protection, and amenities. With her questions answered and her mind put at ease, she would be able to pave the way for the new chapter in their lives and prepare for his arrival with what was to become his home for at least the next few years.

Anna works her magic at the Pregnant Mare Rescue

Lyn Hummer, with the Pregnant Mare Rescue in Watsonville, CA, shared the following in her most recent newsletter about Anna’s Animal Communication Workshop there at the beginning of March:

“Life changing communication and connections were made over the weekend during the Anna Twinney workshop. Big shifts in attitude were clearly visible with some of the horses. Read more on the experience!…”

Along the way to finding our peace in the present moment through Animal Communication…

After Anna’s Animal Communication event at the Pregnant Mare Rescue in California, we received a reflection from a student who is near and dear to our hearts.  If two days of Animal Communication can do this for a soul, imagine what a year-long Mentorship Program could do for you….

“I’m pleasantly surprised by the lingering gift of connection. The house is once again quiet as all the guests have headed home. Routines have returned to normal but a smile lingers as the connection remains. I am fully aware of the busy sparrow jumping back and forth collecting twigs and debris.  She hops across my path picking up the chosen stick. Yes, I am busy like that as well, back to the “daily’s” as I call them. I watch the tiny bird pause and glance my way before taking flight. To my surprise it doesn’t end there. I am part of a moment, receiving and observing messages and “knowings,” as I go about my day. It would seem every action around me has a purpose if I simply let it happen.

I check in with the horses before I must leave for work. I am anxious to visit Grace, a lovely mare that experienced an enormous shift through Anna’s communication session. She is indeed a different horse. Ears forward, welcoming, and interested in my hello, I stroke her serene face. I can feel her satisfaction of having been heard. We, as a group, listened, and as we commit to honoring her requests, her world is forever changed.

On the highway the traffic is rushing through the mountain pass. It’s a familiar commute for many of us. But today it “feels” different. I can sense I am still connected. I remain in the slower lane and enjoy the immense beauty around me. As we slow, in pockets around curves, it is a better opportunity for me to really enjoy the foliage. I have been driving this highway for fifty years and this experience is my first.

My thoughts run to Anna’s words “This is where horses live. They are present.” The weekend workshop opened the door to the knowledge, understanding and experiences available to all of us. Beyond the tremendous benefit of holding the capability of helping and bettering an animal’s life, it presents the way to change our own. This feeling of being connected to all is a leap forward toward inner peace and I know I don’t ever want to go back.”

How Do I Get Started in Animal Communication?

Ask Anna

Dear Anna,
How can I get started with Animal Communication?
There are many ways, the graphic below makes some suggestions for beginning to connect and communicate with your horses. If you have a dog, a cat, or another companion, you can certainly adapt the exercises. The important thing is to begin to thoughtfully communicate. Or, if you’re really ready to learn … consider our Animal Communication Mentorship Program coming next month!

Anna & the Animals: A Glimpse Into Conversations
“Words failed me today during my consultation with an incredible dog diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. She did not describe herself to be stoic, but instead held a warrior’s energy. She did not describe it to be fighting, but instead choosing life. Rather than heaviness around this Christmas season, she chose to focus on health and well being. If we could only bottle this feeling for all to hold during such challenges we all would have a feeling of peace and understanding.”   ~ Anna
