I DON’T WANT TO BELABOR THE POINT, BUT ALTERNATIVE
THERAPIES FOR OUR ANIMALS ARE DANGEROUSLY IN JEOPARDY HERE IN CALIFORNIA,
SHOULD THIS BILL PASS. SO FAR IT HAS GONE THROUGH THE ASSEMBLY UNOPPOSED.
PLEASE HELP YOUR FRIENDS IN CALIFORNIA BY GETTING THE WORD OUT TO EVERYONE
YOU KNOW.
THIS BILL GOES BEFORE THE SENATE ON MONDAY, AUGUST 9. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT
YOUR SENATOR KNOWS THAT YOU ARE OPPOSED TO SECTION (3) OF THE BILL:
“THIS BILL WOULD PROVIDE THAT A PERSON ALSO PRACTICES VETERINARY MEDICINE
WHEN HE OR SHE PERFORMS PHYSICAL REHABILITATION OR MUSCULOSKELETAL
MANIPULATION UPON AN ANIMAL, UNLESS OTHERWISE AUTHORIZED BY REGULATION OF
THE BOARD. …OR ADMINISTERS A TREATMENT OF WHATEVER NATURE FOR THE CURE
OR RELIEF OF BODILY INJURY OR DISEASE OF AN ANIMAL.”
IN OTHER WORDS, ONLY VETERINARIANS ( NOT EVEN LICENSED CHIROPRACTORS,
ACUPUNCTURISTS, MASSAGE THERAPISTS, ETC) CAN TOUCH OUR ANIMALS WITHOUT A
VETERINARY LICENSE.
This bill is a standard bill being pushed by the AVMA. I think the issue is
more effectively framed as a violation of a perfectly good piece of
legislation that California has in place, and secondarily vet medicine
overreaching it’s bounds. The law as it currently stands was passed after
extensive research and investigation and input from all aspects of the lay
and professional equine and animal communities, and met the practical and
medical needs of all facets of the community, and that there is absolutely
no reason to amend a well functioning piece of legislation that supports a
substantial piece of the California agricultural industry, the 3rd largest
industry in the state of California (the horse industry is a subset of
that). ”
