Trace Minerals to the Rescue for the Dynamite Duckling, Pauli!

The Dynamite Duckling!
One of our ducklings didn’t seem to be able to hatch properly. Some of the little ones just can’t quite make it out of the shell on their own. That was the case with this one. After a day of struggle I decided to help cracking the egg. That’s always a problem because the timing is so crucial. In this case it was stuck in the egg too long and had mobility issues (eyes not open, right side of body weak). At the same time it wasn’t finished with absorbing the yolk. Ducklings (and chicks) usually absorb the egg yolk through the navel just before hatching. Sometimes they don’t finish and are left with a hernia and some yolk sack sticking out. Considering the environment they are in, a deadly infection is almost not preventable. I decided to apply Dynamite’s trace mineral concentrate (a liquid) to the wound every couple hours for a day. I also put half a drop in the drinking water. I placed the duckling in a towel (on a heating pad) to help it into the right position. Left alone it would have been constantly on its back, unable to turn over due to the weakness of the right side. We also did a bit of “physio therapy” for 24 hours. After that it was a happy little duckling eating and drinking well and almost maneuvering perfectly. Now it is growing like a normal duck (which is very fast!) and has moved out into the outside enclosure with its friends. We gave it the name Pauli/Pauline (it’s a little too early to know the gender). I am always glad to have a happy ending! This story is hopefully useful to somebody for a variety of emergency situation. The trace mineral concentrate is absolutely amazing! The hernia was completely closed after 24 hours and fluff was covering the spot. Normally a problem like that is a death sentence. A wonderful product to have around for a variety of situations!

Thanks be to Carolina Baertsch for her wonderful instincts and intuition about which Dynamite product to best use in this situation.  Truly a mother to all species, she is!  Best of luck to the little duckling in all future efforts!
