I was asked to help a rescue horse newly under saddle. The concern; no steering and trying the arena boundaries – quite the dangerous combination. For me, it was imperative for him to understand who I was, that I would never hurt him and he would not be asked anything he wasn’t able to understand or achieve. With a full assessment under way I broke down each step to understand his concerns, bridge the gap between body language to line and teach him to follow feel. His worries began to be replaced with confidence and his sensitivity shone through highlighting his need for clarity, understanding and time to process. Without this he would panic and try to “escape” the handler/rider or situation. A personalized program was being born!
