Who could ask for more???
I wanted to tell you all about Spotty and how he is doing. After the great start you gave him and his assessment with you we were able to take your advice and move forward with him in the right direction.
We went found a really good trainer who was not scared of drafts like you suggested. We went with Kevin Paul at Driving Horse Connection who is a natural horsemanship trainer. Spotty went away to him for a few months and then when he came back he worked with us at home… we still have sessions with him every 8 weeks or so to make sure nothing starts to slide!
I also got a new saddle fitter and found him western saddle and a nice dressage saddle that fit him and had trees, instead of the treeless saddle he had been riding in. This means I am more supported which is great if he does do anything!
We also got a new great horse chiro called Dave McClain and you were right that his back was out! The old chiro and vet had not noticed! So he now gets regular adjustments to ensure he stays pain free.
He does pretty well now. Incidents are far and few between. I can take him on trails and to the fairgrounds indoor arena and ride with strange horses and all kinds of things we could only dream about before!
He can still have his moments and take off with me (usually only at home, and when he thinks arena work is getting too boring) but the trainer has practiced with me the one hand stop over and over and while he does not actually always stop (!) it does at least slow him down until I can get him under control. I still only ride him in a plain loose ring snaffle.
So thanks you so much for everything you did for us… Spotty is very happy!
